Ulysses to die alone. In space.
The Ulysses spacecraft, most notably known for passing the north and south poles of the sun and following the trails of three comets, is looking like it is going to shut down. A critical error with the mechanism has happened and the device that kept the fuel from freezing has failed. Once the fuel reaches -2 degrees Celsius, its game over for this 17-year old craft. Good times Uly (that’s what we liked to call him). You will be missed big guy.
Abrams on Star Trek, Cloverfield 2, Dark Tower, world hunger, global warming…
Okay, so the last two were made up but hopefully you get where I was going there. He reveals tons of information on some exciting projects. Which is good to hear seeing as how I am a big fan of his now. Not much more for me to say except you should probably watch the clip.
Looks like you have to wait til 2009 for that new car smell.
Yeah, Gran Turismo 5 got delayed. Sigh. What is with all the PS3 games getting delayed? Seeing as how I own one, you can understand my frustration. Me need games.
“The legendary “Real Driving Simulator” Gran Turismo 5 is heading to PlayStation 3 in 2009, utilising the uber-console’s raw horsepower to generate an unrivalled level of realism.”
2009?! Good god, what happened in development that you had to push it back a whole other year!? Oh well, if its being pushed back, that has got to mean it is going to be better right? I hope so. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is set to release in March 28th, which is a slight taste of the goods to come.
Lair Analog Patch!? Pinch me, I must be dreaming.
Now before you get any hopes up, I need to clear myself. This is not confirmed. Okay, back to the post. Seems as though a certain someone (Doug Allen from the IGN Blogs) has played a certain game (Lair with the analog patch in full effect) and he is loving it. Apparently, it’s the cat’s meow from what I hear. And really, the only problem I had heard with Lair was the fact that the control scheme was so gosh darn horrible (didn’t actually play it myself) so this is welcome news indeed. Will be looking out to see if this is confirmed or not.
Officially, really, no doubt about it, HD-DVD is now dead.
With Paramounts official press release of them backing Blu-ray now, it is pretty much a done deal seeing as how now no studio is willing to back HD-DVD anymore. Blu-ray is the next gen format. To all who spent money on the HD-DVD, sorry. In reality, you should’ve waited until a winner was announced. What were you thinking? Unless you have a lot of money. In which case, you are probably alright. Looks like its time for me to go shopping for a Blu-ray player. Unless you have a PS3.
Former hobbit is now Beak in the new Wolverine movie.
This news is just comical to me, as I have always pretty much looked on Beak (the character in Marvel Comics) with disdain and comtempt. What kind of superhero is he? Sure, you could make the argument that he isn’t a superhero, he’s just a plain old mutant. But I still don’t like him. So when news breaks that Dominic Monaghan is joining the cast of Wolverine to play the character of Beak, it just leaves me scratching my head. I’m sure most of these casting announcements are basically cameo appearances really (hopefully except Gambit), it doesn’t help to settle my nerves on what I hope is a good film.
Two new pictures from the set of G.I. Joe
Hmmm, is it just me or does Duke look, well, vain? I’m sure its just them adjusting the makeup and whatnot, but still, one can’t help but wonder. Maybe that’s just the inner pessimist in me since I didn’t really approve of Channing Tatum being cast. Sienna Miller is still looking good. She’s supposed to be Baroness though. I guess basically, this is definitely not your G.I. Joe from your childhood.

Hugo Weaving to play the dashing hero in The Wolfman.
Having been the villain in one of the most well known sci-fi trilogy and also starring in the most well known fantasy trilogy (The Matrix and Lord of the Rings, respectively) , Mr. Weaving will now try to take on the Wolfman. It was announced today that Hugo Weaving was picked up to star opposite Benicio Del Toro as Det. Aberline, who most likely will be going up against the Wolfman. Just a guess. I like this casting decision seeing as how I love Hugo Weaving and his excellent linguistic skills. He’s not a bad actor either.
Pick of the week (delayed again, sorry :() 2-20-08
APOLOGIES, I’m so horrible at keeping this up. Damn my forgetfulness! I blame video games! Just kidding there. Without further ado, here is your list!
Comics – X-Force #1. Finally, a team dedicated to anything that Cyclops was worried would ruin his goody goody two shoes image. Starring Wolverine, X-23, Rahne and Warpath, they are a team that is assigned to do the dirty work of the X-Men. Because sometimes, you just have to get your hands dirty. Clayton Crain, who worked on two series I absolutely loved (Sensational Spider-Man and Ghost Rider: Trail of Tears), is helmed to do the artwork here and Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle are returning here to flesh out the story as writers (they were previously the writers for the New X-Men Messiah Complex series) it is looking to be a very promising title.
Electronics – The Epoc (without a H) is looking to rock the electronic world with the thought of getting your inner psychic on. The thing basically allows you to become a fledgling psychic, which everybody has dreamt of once in their lives. Amazing thing really. Who know where this could lead us to? Maybe virtual games in 2020? You heard it here first.
Games – Not many games have been coming out so I’m (semi) forced to pick this game. That game is Dynasty Warriors 6. Yes, yes I know, Dynasty Warriors? That game is like rolling around in feces. But this year, Koei has actually done a decent job. Especially if you have never played the series before, now would be a good time to check it out as this game is easily the best one yet. For those who have played it before and want to own at least one of the series because they (semi) like it, pick this one up. Overall, a very solid game. Unless you just flat out hate Dynasty Warriors in which case you should probably save your money for something better.
Movies – Jumper is looking to be a solid movie. Sure the dialogue is kind of hokey and Hayden isn’t too impressive as an actor in here. But the concept is very interesting seeing as how we have seen teleporting done before, just not to the scale that this film takes it. Also, Samuel L. Jackson is in the movie. Need I really say more? “Yes, they deserved to die! I hope they burn in hell!” Priceless.
PS3 sold better than Xbox 360?
Now, I’m not saying total amount. Because as I have heard, currently the 360 has like a 6-7 million lead. However, VG Chartz is reporting that the PS3 has sold 10 million faster than the 360 could. A full FOUR months faster. Yikes. Also, the PS3 has been selling consistently worldwide whereas the 360 has pretty much been selling here in the US. Not to sound like a fanboy (even though I technically am one), but damn that’s pretty impressive. Add that to the fact that Blu-ray did indeed win and its looking like this year could be the year of the PS3. Only time will tell…(add ominous laughter).
